Our managing director Anita Walter has set herself the challenge in her 60th year of walking 70 kilometers across the Great Wall of China in October to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society.
Through her employment in Social Care she has supported many people whoselives are affected by Dementia and having seen the effects this disease has on them and also personal experience of the impact this disease has had on her own family, she wanted to raise funds and the profile of this degenerative disease to help improve the lives of suffers and their families.
Anita will leave the UK on Thursday 12th October and will spend 10 days treking along One Of The Seven Wonders Of The World, The Great Wall Of China which has to be the ultimate building project the world has ever known; constructed by human hands over 2000 years ago, it stretches across a very hilly region with long spurs and watch-towers often disappearing into the mists. The trek will be very varied as Anita will pass through woodland and terraced farmland, following the contours of the beautiful hills and mountains in remote areas of Beijing. She will follow old sections of the Great Wall, as well as restored sections with smooth flagstones and lots of steps!
This challenge is physically demanding and Anita has been working hard in preparation for this trip with regular training sessions.
Anita has spent the last year fervently fundraising for this very worthwhile charity by holding a number of different fun events from an afternoon garden tea party, prize bingo, a silent auction, teddy tombola,a beetle drive, a swear box, and 100 squares to name but a few. She has worked tirelessly and even increased her fundraising goal from £3,000 to £5,000! Her total raised so far stands at a very impressive £4958.59. Her just giving page is still open and any donations would be very gratefully received.
Everyone at Extra Hands is wishing Anita all the very best with this adventure and we very much look forward to hearing all about her travels on her return to England, so watch this space.
