At Extra Hands, we know our carers make a difference every single day to people’s lives and we regularly receive stories of how our staff have gone above and beyond their roles to help our service users.
With this in mind, we launched the GEM awards - which stands for Going the Extra Mile - as an opportunity to recognise the dedication of our carers, with nominations put forward by service users and their families.
A winner is picked from each branch every three months and we are delighted to announce our latest GEM awards go to Sue Symington, from our Broadland branch and Sharon Newman, from our Heacham office.
Both have been highly praised for their empathy, caring and kindness by the people who nominated them.
“Sue was the person closest to my husband in the final two years of his life, it is a huge comfort to me to know that he wasn’t just her ‘7:30 client’ and that for her, the work she does is obviously so much more than ‘just a job’,” said one. “Her visits were never rushed and her attention to detail made us feel like she was one of the family, and that made dealing with various problems and issues over the two years so much easier.”
Another letter of nomination said: “Sue goes beyond the call of duty and is always smiling, nothing is too much trouble, she brings help and happiness into my wife’s life with more than special care which helps my wife with her several illnesses.”
Sharon won glowing praise from the family member of a service user who had to go to hospital.
“Sharon assessed mother, with all care and compassion and kindness. She made sure mother was comfortable whilst on the floor waiting for the ambulance. Sharon was very consistent with mother offering her reassurance to both mother and me the whole time,” the nomination said. “Sharon is ALWAYS, without a doubt, a fantastic, kind, caring person who offers a great deal of respect and kindness.”
Many congratulations to both our deserving winners and to all those who were nominated for an award in recognition of their hard work and dedication.
We know our staff going the extra mile not only has a huge impact on the lives of the people you look after, but helps Extra Hands maintain its award-winning standards and reputation.
