Pamela Aberdeen has been with Extra Hands following a career change, when her previous job at a factory came to an end.
"I'd been at the factory for 17 years when the announced the factory was closing down and we were all losing our jobs, so I was absolutely petrified at the prospect of having to do my first interview for 17 years, but I couldn't have found a better place than Extra Hands. I really can't say a bad word about them. Right from the outset, they've treated me like family.
"The first time I went out on call, I was incredibly nervous but I treated the service users with respect and dignity and really felt it was returned to me. I did my best to make them feel relaxed, and they were so grateful, it made me feel really good about what I was doing.
"I take great pride in my work, so it really matters to me that I do a good job, and make people feel comfortable with what I'm doing. To know that you're helping people to live independently and to stay in their own homes is incredibly rewarding, so when I hear them say thank you, it means so much and gives me a huge sense of purpose in what I'm doing.
"As a company, Extra Hands place a huge emphasis on customer service, and making sure that people who use the service feel satisfied with it. We've had some hugely positive responses, so when you hear people say how much they appreciate what you do, and how much more highly they regard us than some of the other service providers out there, it means everything to us.
"Although it's grown a lot over the last few years, Extra Hands is still at heart a small company, and retains all that's best about that. The way you are trained is great, they're great at communicating and getting information out to the staff and in many ways it's still a real family business. I really can't say a bad word about them.
"Over the years, the service has become a lot more professional as the company and the demands upon it have grown, but at the same time, Extra Hands has still managed to maintain so much of what makes it distinctive and special.
"The priority given to proper care is still 100%, there's always someone on hand in the office to talk to, and they're great listeners too, so from both a service user and an employee's point of view, Extra Hands are a great company to be associated with."
