At
Extra Hands, we know our staff are in a league of their own, providing
the best quality care
possible to all our service users, which is why we like to hear from
them which of our carers have gone above and beyond the call of duty –
or as we call it, gone the extra mile -
and earned a nomination for our GEM awards.
The latest round produced a array of names, and each of them with nominations as individual
and distinct as the care users and their families who made them.
Nina Tye
was picked out for her unflappability, and the fact she always has the answer to every
problem.
“Every
time she has issues thrown at her, she quickly thinks of a solution and
changes visits
to benefit both the service user and the carers,” said Craig Allcock,
who nominated her. “Knowing she is on call gives a big boost to the
confidence of the carers and service users themselves… the service users
know she wants the best for them and as a carer
it's obvious she is loved by all. She really deserves it.”
Trevor Wicks was nominated by one service user for his attention to
their father. “They were an absolute blessing and really gave Dad his
full care and attention, so patient, understanding, kind and
professional,” the nomination said.
“If Dad needed extra time or help, he was always willing to be flexible and give that
extra time, care and attention. Trevor helped him a lot and their personal care was wonderful.”
Alexandra Hart
earned a nomination for her dependability and willingness to fill in for others at
short notice, and Teresa Potter, a relatively new member of staff, was praised for helping out with issues such as service users’ washing and running errands.
Joanne Warrant
was praised for her “real commitment and dedication, making all the
service users feel at ease .. she is always thinking of other people in
work and out of work.”
Amy Platten earned
her nomination for taking charge of what a service user’s daughter
called “a very stressful situation” for her elderly mother who suffered a
fall, shortly before she moved into a care home.
“I
was quite stressed myself as Mum had only just been discharged from
hospital due to a previous
fall and my mind was racing ahead … Amy stayed with me and helped to
get Mum washed and dressed. She was very reassuring, not just to Mum but
to me too.
“Her
calm, practical and helpful nature was just perfect during a very
stressful situation. I
was surprised to learn that this call to Mum was, I think, only the
second Amy had had since her return to work, so even more reason to
acknowledge the huge impact she made that evening.”
Amanda Hathaway
was praised for “always smiling, being willing to share knowledge, and do little extras
for people”, while Kerry Williams was nominated for staying
until a doctor came to visit a care user, after what was described in
the nomination as a “battle” with someone working on the 111 medical
help line.
As well as practical help, sometimes a smile and an upbeat attitude can also make a big difference.
New staff member SamanthaColman was praised for “a wicked sense
of humour… she does a great job, the clients like her a lot, and she's
very genuinely caring,” while
Chloe Harris was described as “confident, professional, she’s funny and clients love her.”
HannahMcGuire was picked out for special praise in finding someone who had gone missing, and
Tina earned a nomination for little extras such as doing ironing for people.
Molly Jeffreys earned
praise for looking after a service user’s nails and hair – “she is a
credit to your company and is always willing to help.”
Kendra Lyne, Sam Colman
and Tina Howes also all earned nominations for the quality of service they have
provided to users.
As
a company, our reputation is only as good as the service provided by
the carers we employ.
The number and variety of these nominations show that we are lucky to
have the best of the best, and our service users know and appreciate
that too.
