We have been officially declared outstanding by the Care Quality Commission which has praised staff, personalised care, training and leadership in its latest report. Our Heacham office was inspected in February and we are now the only home-based elderly care company in Norfolk to currently be rated as Outstanding - the highest rating that can be given by the commission. We have an ever increasing number of people using our extensive range of services and it is our service users who are at the heart of everything we do and it’s our person-centred care that really stands out. We use innovative approaches, including a smart phone app for staff and our ‘rapid response’ team of carers, alongside great training, hard work and dedication to providing the best service possible. We are incredibly proud of our Registered Manager Lynda Hilliard and everyone at Extra Hands who works to provide fantastic person-centred care for all of our service users. Having exceptional people providing that care is crucial and it is thanks to them that we have been awarded the outstanding status. The inspecting team praised us in all five key areas of safety, effectiveness, caring, responsiveness and leadership. They also said our care was consistent from our team who could be relied on. “People had consistency from a small team of care staff who knew their needs well and could be relied upon,” said the inspector. Particular praise was made of our extensive induction and training programme which was said by the inspection team to be thorough, regular and up to date. A group of our service users and their relatives were also interviewed by the inspection team and one of them said: “All of them are brilliant. Since we have had them his life has been completely changed for the better. It is all down to the wonderful training and skill of the carers.” Our reputation is built on amazing comments like this and changing lives for the better is our aim in a nutshell. “Training was exceptional because it was provided face-to-face and included a wide range of additional training around the specific needs of individuals. These enable care staff to support people in the way they wanted to be supported in their own homes,” the report says. Congratulations to everyone - it would never have happened without you.
