Our Frequently Asked Questions

Contact us on 01485 570611 and one of our friendly team members will discuss your needs.

Yes. At Extra Hands we understand how important it can be to have consistency in your care. Our aim is to provide a regular carer from a small team, so that you can get to know them and good relationships can be developed.

Visits are based on your individual requirements and can be flexible to meet your changing needs.  We can provide anything from a one off visit to multiple visits on a daily basis. This will be discussed with you at the beginning of your care plan.

We pride ourselves on our reliable service and we use the latest technology to keep track of all our carers and appointments. The electronic monitoring system will inform us if a carer does not turn up on time and we will rectify it immediately.

Unlike other companies, with Extra Hands you only pay for what you need.  Visits are available according to your unique needs in the following durations: 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes and 1 hour and above.

Your invoice will be generated every 4 weeks in arrears and will be sent to the nominated person. Payments can be made by cheque, bank transfer or alternatively a direct debit instruction can be setup to collect the payments.

This depends on the level of care you require but we aim to be fair with our pricing. All our visits are charged at a flat rate with no hidden costs, we charge the same rate 365 days a year.

No, providing you have informed us in advance.

Yes, we provide temporary packages of care if needed, anything from a one off visit to an on-going care package.

All our staff are well vetted and checked before they start visiting any clients. We obtain two written references, which we follow up with verbally to verify and a Disclosure & Barring Service check (DBS) prior to commencement of employment.  They have on-going checks throughout their employment to ensure that they remain fully compliant with our standards.

We also carry out regular monitoring, supervisions and appraisals to enable us to be confident that our staff continue to meet the very high standards expected of them.

Sometimes older people are not keen to start having help at home, it’s not uncommon and we completely understand why they may feel reluctant. Our Well-Being Check Service could be an excellent alternative as a first stepping stone into receiving care.
Your carer can help you with practical, personal and social care to meet your needs. See Care page for a non-exhaustive list.
As soon as you need us to. We can start care at short notice (even on the same day if necessary!) or at a later scheduled date that we’ll agree with you.
Don’t worry, your care will still continue as normal. You will always be told in advance if your regular carer is going to be unavailable and an alternative carer will be sent in their absence.
We deliver care between the hours of 6am to 11pm, we can also provide night sits with prior notice.
The best way is for you to have a key safe installed outside your home. This is a simple, inexpensive job and is by far the securest way of gaining entry. However we are happy to discuss alternative arrangements with you if necessary.
You may be eligible for some financial assistance please click here to find out more? .
All of our staff register their arrival and departure times using our electronic monitoring system through their mobile phones. This tells us exactly what time they arrived and left, so we can invoice you accordingly.
Yes. We are passionate about the standard of care our staff provide you with and take our responsibility to train them very seriously. Extra Hands provides a structured training programme for all our home care workers, including all the mandatory training required by the Care Quality Commission and continued professional development training for more experienced carers. This is delivered by our in-house training officer. We also have our own Dementia Care training programme. Dementia is a common issue so all our staff regularly receive training on how best to support you or your family members with Dementia. All our carers are regularly checked and we conduct supervised monitoring visits to assess and review the quality of care they are providing.
That’s no problem. We carry out regular reviews of your care package and can be very flexible to ensure we meet your changing needs. Should you wish to amend your care package before your next review this can be done by a simple phone call to the office.
