WIth a hint of spring in the air, it’s time to announce the March winners of our GEM award - and we have a triple recipient!
Launched in 2020, the Going the Extra Mile award was started when the pandemic had a tight hold, and our carers were all working hard for service users who showed their appreciation by telling us how wonderful they were.
The idea of a GEM Award is to publicly reward staff members who really do go above and beyond. The initiative proved so popular that it’s now a permanent fixture in our calendar and winners are chosen each quarter.
Our three-time winner is Kate Davis who works from the Broadland office and who first received a GEM award in December 2021 and also received one in September 2023.
Having worked with us for 14 years, she is an experienced carer and also works one day a week as a rapid responder, filling in if carers go off sick or undertaking reviews with service users.
And her nomination came from a family member after Kate was with their father when he passed away.
Her first award was made after a family nominated her for work with their mother who had dementia.
Our Heacham winner is Susan Livick-Smith who has only been with us for nine months and was nominated for her award by a colleague.
“Sue has empathy and compassion towards her clients. Sue is a colleague I would feel comfortable sharing any problems with and one we could all learn from. I believe she is deserving of this recognition.”
Nominations for GEM award scan be emailed to contact@extrahands.net or by post to Units 13/14 Heacham Hall Industrial Estate, Heacham PE31 7JT or to Unit 10, Abbey Farm Commercial Park, Southwell Road, Horsham St Faith, Norwich NR10 3JU.
